East Street runs down from The Lanes towards the pier, and at number 76, a short walk from the seafront, Platinum Lace Brighton opens at nine in the evening. The door asks for smart: jeans pass with a collared shirt or a jacket, but trainers, sportswear and hats are turned away.

Inside, the rooms glow red under low lamps and candlelight, with a long bar, a stage for pole and striptease shows through the night, and dancers offering private dances at the tables and in the VIP booths. Resident DJs and themed weekends set the tempo, and the Platinum Champagne Bar can be reserved for a group, with stag and birthday packages on offer. Fridays and Saturdays run until five in the morning, Thursdays until four, other nights until three. On Mondays the club stays shut.
