Crushed red velvet is the house style at Secrets, on Glenthorne Road in Hammersmith since 1997: curved banquettes, velvet tub chairs, a crystal chandelier, beaded curtains and a mirrored bar lit in amber.

Entry is £20; a pair can come in with a bottle of prosecco, and larger groups can go the whole way to a Jeroboam of Taittinger rosé. Walk-ins are welcome when there is space, though booking is wise for groups. The door operates a 21-and-over policy, the dress code is smart casual, and hours run Tuesday to Saturday from nine until four, last entry at three.
