Look for the purple door on Lloyd Street, just off Albert Square in the middle of Manchester. Whiskey Down is downstairs, on two levels, done out like a Bond-era private lounge from the 1970s.

You come in to the Cabaret Lounge, where the bar carries over a hundred whiskies and there are cabaret acts at weekends. Further in are the themed function rooms, including a Games Room with a pool table. Doors open at 10pm, Tuesday to Sunday; it runs to 4am midweek and 6.30am on Fridays and Saturdays. Walk in if you like, but booking a table is the safer bet.
