Thirty is a good age. You stop performing, you stop guessing, and you discover that most men would far rather be with somebody genuinely at ease than with somebody trying very hard.

I'm Congolese, tall enough that heels are a decision rather than a habit, and I have collected languages the way other people collect souvenirs. French first, then Arabic from living here, and a stubborn amount of Armenian that has never once been useful. Salmiya is home and it suits me. What I won't do is watch the clock over your shoulder, or pretend to be shocked by anything you tell me. Say it out loud. It's easier for both of us.
