Look for purple neon on the roof and a tall flagpole out front, a hundred yards off the Palmetto Expressway near NW 36th Street. Miami Velvet calls itself Florida's largest private lifestyle nightclub, 20,000 square feet with a dance floor under a starburst of lights, lounges, themed parties and private rooms. It is BYOB: your bottle gets your name and waits at the bar, and mixers, lockers and towels come with the entry fee. Nobody is pushed into anything here; plenty of members simply come to dance. Doors open at 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays only, and a membership is required.
